I am having difficulty getting my pipex account to work with my new SAR703 router. I have been using the account itself with a borrowed Alcatel USB modem with no problems but when I try to use my router I cannot connect.
I have installed my ethernet card and it's been recognised by XP.
I've configured the router according to the instructions on the CD using 192.168.7.2 as my address.
I am establishing a connection but am unable to connect to any sites, I have tried using the pipex dns servers and also the one suggested in the manual but with no result.
I can ping my ethernet card and ping the router but cannot go beyond that.
What am I doing wrong ?

Is this using the web interface to configure the router?
First thing. Are you logged into pipex.
From the manual.... Use hyperterminal (or telnet) to go to the CLI mode of the router. Then type the command 'ppp 1 info all'.
Look at the IPCP options.
They should show state as opened and also have valid IP addresses for the local options (i.e. not 0.0.0.0!).
If these are okay then this tells me you ARE logged into your pipex account.
Next... check that your PC has the correct gateway address (winipcfg or ipconfig /all) and DNS address.
Next... drop into a DOS box and try and ping the DNS address.
Do you get a reply?
Try all that and tell me the results (PS this is also given in a trouble shooting section at the end of the 703 manual).

Thanks, I'll try again tonight. It definitely can't be the router as I was able to get a connection with it on a friends BT service.

I've done as you suggested, result is below :
ISolwise> ppp 1 info all
PPP 1: Channel 1 : open for IP, sent 294, received 259
PPP 1: PVC setting : port 0 vpi 0 vci 38
PPP 1: Transport : IP
PPP 1: Our login protocol : CHAP
PPP 1: Our login name : xxxxx@dsl.pipex.net
PPP 1: Interface : 1 (02:30:eb:c4:de:12)
PPP 1: MAC address : 06:30:eb:c4:de:12
PPP 1: Phase : Network
PPP 1: LCP: state : Opened
PPP 1: LCP: local options : MRU=1500 magic=0
PPP 1: LCP: remote options : MRU=1500 magic=4055680744 auth=0xc223
PPP 1: PAP: login as user : XXXXXX@dsl.pipex.net'
PPP 1: CHAP: login as user : XXXXXX@dsl.pipex.net'
PPP 1: IPCP: state : Opened
PPP 1: IPCP: local options : IP address=217.32.27.61
PPP 1: IPCP: local options : primary DNS server=194.74.65.98
PPP 1: IPCP: remote options: IP address=217.32.66.202
PPP 1: Transmitted : 15198 bytes 294 packets
PPP 1: Received : 11673 bytes 259 packets
PPP 1: Connected time : 0 hr, 5 min, 14 sec
I've used both the setup program & the web interface and both give the same result, i seem to be establishing a connection but can't ping anywhere or connect to mail or websites.
ipconfig shows the values I setup :
Ip address 192.168.7.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.7.1
DNS Servers 158.43.240.4
158.43.240.3
I've tried useing IE and Opera, can't connect in either (PS, your forum doesn't seemto like Opera!)
I'm sending this using an Alcatel modem which works OK, I'll have another go with the router as well.

Hi Fred, no I'm now connecting using XXX@dsl.pipex.net.
Maybe using the setup utility rather than the web interface worked. pipex itself was offline when i tried this earlier.
Thanks to all for the help anyway.

Pipex had network problems all day today - a knackered router. It's all fixed now, as of approx 10pm.
Touch wood.
