Sorry to ask the question that has already been asked... but...

I only have one PC connected to my SAR 703 router... so would prefer it to work as a modem only.. rather than as a NAT router...

Im on PIPEX... so will obviously be given a dynamic IP address ... does this effect its ability to work in this mode???

I would prefer the router to send the IP addy to the single PC.. and use a firewall instead.. and have the PC visible (with firewall in place of course) to the outside world.. for VPN/file sharing/FTP server .. blah blah...

So.. how can I do it???

Thanks... this forum is very useful.. and the answers to questions seem very clear!!!!

cant be done I'm afraid, well, at least I couldnt get it to work, I had the exact same setup as you describe, you need a router with DHCP_Spoofing which the SAR dosnt have, if you turn off NAT on the router, it dosnt seem to work proporly

also, if my memmory searves me, you cant use VPN with the router, I cant remmeber the exact reason, but I know you cant

If you want to do this with only one IP address then no, it canm't be done (no DHCP spoofing).

With 2 or more IP's then turn NAT off and set the WAN and LAN addresses the same.

Not the ideal solution but normally you are assigned the same IP each time - it is possible to try putting that IP as your computer?

Or do you mean you need 2 - 1 for the router 1 for computer?

Yes.... 2 - 1 for PC and 1 for router.
