Globespan have just updated the firmware for the SAR110.
Apart from some of the screens look a bit more sexy and even more on screen help (!) three important things have happened that I've spotted...
1. The clock now keeps time correct! Useful for alarms or if you are setting ip filters for specified times of day
2. There now seems to be 4 new ALG's including T120, LDAP, SGI Compcore, MSN Messenger.
3. Ability to block specified protocols
Be interesting to know how good the MSN Messenger ALG is?
The firmware and latest setup guide can be downloaded from

Upgrade is simple using the web upgrade feature. Configuration is reset when you upgrade but you might be able to use the commit option to save the config to backup and then reload when the new firmware's been installed - I've not tried this :-)

It seems the 110 doesn't like the file name I've given this file.
After you've downloaded please change it to TEImage.bin
This works fine. :-)

Great - Will hopefully try tonight.
As mentioned previously it would be nice as a future upgrade if there was a way of saving the configuration information to a file which can be downloaded - and which could subsequently be uploaded and re-applied.
I realise that this may not be possible if there are major changes, but should be fine for minor upgrades and for testing new settings (ie. as a way of recovering from having to reset to default settings once you've screwed it up!).

Well it uploaded with no problems, and I entered my configuration again, it logs me in, I get my ISPs IP address etc so I know I have the DSL params correct.
BUT seems no routing exists, the IP Route table looks like it did before the upgrade but not able to get anything out, I cant even ping the ISPs default gateway via its IP address.
I've just used the quick configuration option.
Any hints anywhere?

Did you try doing a config reset, i.e. boot in default config, after flashing the firmware, just in case anything got messed up?

Yeap, makes no difference.

Mr Saffron
Just upgraded myself and had the same problem. I just changed the default route in the quick config to enabled and all is well.

John seems to be correct here.... Won't work with default route disbaled but with enabled I can find no problem.
Apart from this one msiatke the new firmware seems to work fine for me?
Anyone else haveing any problems?

Didn't get time to try last night, hopefully tonight.
Have a question though - what is the impact of enabling default route, where you have more than one IP?
I have the router IP using NAPT to a couple of PC's, with a second IP dedicated to one machine using BIMAP. Does enabling default route make it appear as if all traffic is coming from the router IP, or does the 2nd IP not end up with a default route? Excuse ignorance - still trying to learn.
On a related subject is there a copy of the existing (1.37) firmware which can be regressed to if the new version stops me working?

Before the default was route enabled so I assume things will work the same.
The old firmware is on the CD sent out with the router.

Absolutely no idea what I was doing wrong,
But just configured it and all is fine now, routing perfectly well.
May have been this weird combo of
Alcatel 510v4 (DHCP off) running as 100Mbps switch
Old 5 port 10Mbps hub
Linksys WET11 running in bridge mode
Elsa Lancom Wireless AP
then the SAR-110 :-)
So I may have had a screw up somewhere.
I'll go hide and cook some food now.

Well everything uploaded OK, setup was a bit temperamental on Quick Config, and particularly on setting DHCP address pool - this latter required multiple retries (and reboots) before it worked.
Everything working OK now though!

DHCP pool seemed fine here, though would be nice having a basic pool defined (better for newbies as means network card will more often find modem).
Has anyone noticed that things like the NAT global stats pop-up window seems slower to appear now?

Nope - Still seems as quick as it was previously.
I'm still occasionally getting glitches with rule definition - usually with it saying that I haven't provided a mandatory parameter (even though they are all there!). I'm not sure whether it is something to do with using TAB key to move between fields - doesn't seem to happen as much if I use the mouse to select the field. I'll keep an eye on this.
