View Full Version : NeverWire 14 Ethernet dead 15 minutes after arrival?

Hello,

I had two NeverWire 14 units delivered from SolWise this morning.

I followed the instructions to plug them in, and set up the 'advanced security encryption' option OK (ie, I got to the point where the SECURE LED is on solid on both units).

I then followed the instructions to attach a PC to one of the units.

The PC connected to the NeverWire OK for a few minutes (and I could see the two units with the Phonex administrative console software referred to in the manual, and I was able run the link throughput test a couple of times). However, after a few minutes all of the LEDs on the unit attached to the PC went out spontaneously except the PLC R/A LED. At that point the admin console software seemed no longer able to see the local unit (or the remote one).

I tried the unit self-test procedure (press DIAGS button for 1-2 seconds), the result of which is supposed to be one (= unit good) or two (= unit bad) flashes of the TEST LED. In my case there were no flashes at all of the TEST LED button.

As you might guess, I have subsequently been unable to get any traffic across the A/C mains network.

I then swapped the two units over. I attached the second unit to the PC and all seems to be well: SECURE, PLC R/A LEDs on solid, ETH L/A mostly on, flashing occasionally; and the admin console software can see the unit.

To cut a long story short, I cannot now get any LED except the PLC R/A one to light on the suspect unit. I have tried attaching a router (BT logo combined ADSL router/4-port switch), a desk-top, a lap-top, and a switch, to the suspect unit, but in no case does the ETH L/A LED light (although when the unit is attached to a PC, Windows says the link is up, and when attached to a switch the link LED on the switch does light up).

The SECURE LED is solid off on the suspect unit, so just in case the cause of the problem is that (in some momentary lapse of reason) I had managed to completely disable encryption on the suspect unit, I followed the procedure to revert to the default security encryption on both units. This worked on the OK unit (SECURE LED changes back to flashing slowly), but, again, not a sausage on the suspect unit: still all LEDs off except PLC R/A.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I should proceed?
