Can some one please assist me.

As you may know with my past messages I am having problems connecting to Pipex, after a long conversation with them, they said "well you did log on for 1minute and 42 seconds" SO WHY DOES IT NOT DO IT NOW!....

I have configured the router exactly as per the updated manual (8.2 firmware)

I have entered the details as per Pipex information. Yet this is all I get.

DSL LINK (ON)
DSL ACT (intermittent/occasional flash)

STATUS: Enabled, Up, Phase=Establish
STATUS: Enabled, DOWN

Packets are clearly being sent and received.

Please can some one offer some advice, or send me screen shots (minus username and password info) for their pipex connection!!..

Thanks

Matt

Hi there,

What your describing is something that had me going for about two weeks. I've finally managed to get it up and runnnig though, and there are a few things that you need to look out for.

1). For some reaons, my line is ANSI, not G.DMT like it says in the guide. I'm not sure if this will help you, but it might.

2). Make sure that you have "PPPoA ROUTED" selected... what your describing happens if your run "PPPoA Bridged"

3). Let it try connecting for 30mins. My conncetion usually send about 100 packets before actually connecting... and this takes ages. Thank goodness once it's up, it doesn't go down.

Hi

I use pipex ok. Go to the command prompt of the CLI (hyperterminal or telnet)

Type --> nat status

Make sure you see

NAT enabled on:

ID | Name | Interface | Type
------------------------------------------
>SOMETHING HERE<
------------------------------------------

if you get disabled of nothing where something should be then you need to set up NAT.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info, NAT is enabled, I did check this several times, but was worth checking again.

I tried Ansi, GDMT etc.. no difference.

The only thing I can think of is that I am dumb! Either you guys able to print screen your configuration pages for me? It would be very much appreciated..

Thanks

Matt

Hi, Wont do a screen print as there is too many shots from the web interface that you will need. All the info should be here.

This was gained from the CLI, BTW the adsl line was down when I took this but it should not matter for the setup

You've updated to 8.2! Theres all kinds of issues with it, from what I hear.

There is a lot of bullsh*****g going on here.

I purchased this router with goodwill, and the damn firmware update process doesnt even work successfully, I am using a Windows XP Pro machine.

Thank god, it doesnt try to re-write the flash at the same time, otherwise I would have lost the router a long time ago.

Basically I feel that this router is a pile of pants really, it doesnt do anything that which Solwise wrote up on the web.

I purchased this router thinking I can run Netmeeting and games on it, and have some basic firewall configuration setup, but the so-called new firmware update, doesnt even update!

How can Solwise get away with this? Say A B C when blatently, A B and C doesnt work right, and it doesnt even get that far because the update doesnt work. (for those of you it has worked, you were either really lucky, or insiders)

Is there anyone out there, who can help me out here? Is it just me, or is this the worst peice of FirmWare update software I've ever seen??? I've updated all my bios's and CDROM's etc etc., and they had to be done hardcore through DOS, and they all worked! This damn thing wont get past stage 1!

If there is someone who can help, dont just bang up the quick and dirty replies, a simple, numbered step list would be most helpful, to myself, and many others who I see are having the same problem here!

If I knew that this was going to be this much hassle, I would have spent the extra 100 odd quid and got a more reputable ADSL router, I actually really thought I was getting a bargain!
I mean come on, there aint even a label on the damn things front face to describe its an ADSL router made by xxx.

Bear in mind that 8.2 is a beta release. If the existing instructions don't get revised for the final version then that is the time to get annoyed.

With that said, here's how I updated the firmware (Win2K Pro; my XP machine is on the fritz at the moment).

1) I downloaded the updated configuration program and firmware from http://www.solwise.co.uk/downloads.htm

2) I plugged the router directly into my PC's NIC. I normally have a firewall between the router and the rest of my network; this b0rks the upgrade process, so it's important to make sure that the only thing talking to the router is the PC which is performing the upgrade.

3) I turned off DHCP for my PC and assigned it a fixed address in the same subnet as the router. My router's IP was 192.168.7.1 (I didn't bother changing it from the default) and I set my PC to 192.168.7.2/255.255.255.0 - you may need different addresses depending on any changes you may have made to the router.

4) I installed the updated configuration program and ran it.

5) I right-clicked on the dialog box and chose Misc Setting

6) I then clicked on each of the ... buttons and selected the firmware files I'd downloaded: BOOTCODE.BIN for the Bootcode option, 3D1083-A.BIN for the Runtime code option.

7) I then clicked on OK

8) I then right-clicked on the dialog box and chose Upgrade Firmware

9) Lastly I clicked on OK and waited for it to do its thing.

Once the firmware had upgraded the IP address had changed to 192.168.1.1 so I had to change my PC's IP address so that I could use the web interface to configure it.

Hope that helps.

Just to add my comments.

I upgraded from the 6000EV becuase I wanted VPN and MSN Messenger (full functionality) to work with Win XP.

I was aware that the 8.2 firmware was BETA prior to my upgrade, so I was prepared for a little pain.

Here's the PAIN.

A bit awkward to get the firmware upgrade to stick, but after following the procedure above, it eventually worked.

Problems with the Web interface and console not reponding, but the router still works - just requires a reboot to get the web and console back.

UPnP did not work - I suspected after sniffing my network that my PC was at fault. I ran the Win XP setup again using the upgrade option on my PC - it kept all my apps and settings OK. My Win XP machine now has this new amazing Virata IGD icon in my Network places - UPnP WORKS.

Good News.
MSN Messenger voice and video work great.
Outgoing VPN using PPTP, L2TP and IPSec all work fine.

Haven;t figured incoming VPN's yet, but have a feeling they will be OK .

Summary - I like the SAR715, it is an improvement on the 6000ev - with the hope that the official firmware release fixes a couple of oddities / bugs and a manual is provided.

Lastly, thanks to Solwise for a painless upgrade - I was without ADSL for only 2 days - a chance to do some gardening instead (YUK - I would advise anyone to avoid laying a new lawn, bloodyu hurts your back!!).
