View Full Version : Connection dropped due to unsupported codec

Just recently, when the unit has tried to play a file with an unsupported codec, it's been dropping its wireless connection and then takes an eternity to get the connection back.
I select a video file (a conversion I've done of another file via 'AnyVideoConverter'), I briefly get the 'codec unsupported' message and then the connection drops and I get the server unavailable message, and then I'm back to the 'home' screen and the unit starts searching for a wireless connection. Any ideas what that's all about?

Oh, and I need to reboot the PC to get the connection back...

WTF? Anyone got any useful suggestions?

Moreover, the connection drops apparently randomy, it can be for any video file I try to play, sometimes they work, sometimes the unit loses the server.

Has nobody got any ideas?

Hi
Sorry about the delay, I've been off for a while.
You sat you have to reboot the PC to get the connection back, so are you losing the wifi connection, or just the network connection to the media server, is it Windows MP 11? Is it XP or Vista? Are you connecting to a router or ad hoc to the PC.

Cheers

Thinking about it, I've observed this when I try to play recordings from my MythTV box (on which more on the other thread).

For me, the connection to the MythTV server would disappear - though I think it was possible to connect to other uPnP servers. The most reliable way to get it back for me was to turn the box off, wait a minute and turn it back on - if you didn't wait a minute, it wouldn't pick up the MythTV server, but it would pick up other uPnP servers on the same network. Bizarre.

I don't think it's the Wifi connection, just the media server connection. I'm using WMP11 and XP, and going through a wifi router.

But now I've got a bigger problem, the unit keeps apparently switching itself off, or resetting itself, it starts looking for the wireless connection and then the TV screen goes black, I get the message about watching content from my pc on my TV , it starts searching again, resets itself, and so on, and it's now unusable. What should I do? Have you seen this sort of behaviour before?

I had the same random rebooting problem. Having tried every possible combination of software and physical solutions, I'm 99% certain it's down to the unit overheating. Since standing it on its side (so that nothing is touching the base), I've not had the problem.

Ah, I wondered about that, and it does seem to get quite hot, even though the room it's in never gets very warm. I'll try putting it on its side. Thanks for the advice.
